NIPPLE DISCHARGE

Nipple discharge, or galactorrhea, may be an alarming finding for a woman. It may be caused by normal hormone variation (such as when lactating) or by abnormal growths within the ducts of the nipple. While most cases of nipple discharge are benign, some cases may be caused by cancer. This is why it’s important to contact your provider about it.

Work up of nipple discharge should include a physical examination and breast imaging. Sometimes, a minor surgical procedure is necessary to diagnosis and/or treat the cause of the discharge.

At Delaware Breast Care, Dr. Quarterman evaluates a woman’s nipple discharge and explains what tests may be necessary to understand it. Dr. Quarterman performs surgery for nipple discharge if it is needed.
